Frequently asked questions
Does the NVMMMF help individual families cover costs associated with their child passing away such as funerals or medical bills?
Unfortunately, at this time we do not donate to individual families.
How often do you have events?
We hold 1-2 fundraising events a year. We are working parents with young kids who spend any free time on weekends and late nights throughout the year preparing for these events, as well as the donation process following the events.
What do you do with the proceeds following the events?
We donate the majority of the proceeds. We donate half of the net proceeds financially to Fernside Center for Grieving Children, another nonprofit. This helps them to continue to provide their services free of charge.
With the remaining net profit, we purchase copies of the grief book, The Invisible String by Patrice Karst - a book about still feeling connected to others even when they aren’t physically present. We custom stamp the inside cover of each book in memory of Nicholas. We deliver and donate them to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, who then distributes them to families who experience the loss of a child.
Additionally, we also donate any remaining drinks and snacks that were leftover from the fundraisers.
There are many operational costs we incur including maintaining a website, P.O. Box, nonprofit taxes and accounting, rental fees at fundraising locations, supplies for our events, marketing, etc. Our board members are unpaid volunteers. To help cover operating expenses, we retain 10% of the profits.
